OPAS brilliantly launched a new chapter in its artistic vision with the debut of The OPAS Candlelight Series, transforming Festival Hall into a warm, glowing sanctuary for music lovers. Bathed in candlelight and stunning atmosphere, the evening featured the acclaimed classical-crossover quartet Sons of Serendip, delivering a performance that was as intimate as it was electrifying. The immersive setting invited the audience to lean in, creating a shared experience that felt both reverent and celebratory.

The ensemble’s golden-voiced tenor Micah Christian was pitch-perfect throughout the night, his tone carrying a celestial clarity that transported the audience from the very first note. Familiar favorites, including My Cherie AmourSigned, Sealed, DeliveredHallelujah, and Carry On Wayward Son, were reimagined with elegance and emotional nuance, joined by original works that showcased the group’s signature blend of classical refinement and contemporary soul.

Adding a distinctive palette, harp and piano textures were woven seamlessly with the masterful cello artistry of New York-based cellist Zach Brown (not that Zach Brown), elevating each arrangement with depth and musicality. The result was an experience that felt both familiar yet entirely new, culminating in a sustained standing ovation from a captivated and appreciative Greensboro audience.

A highlight of the evening came with special performances by former OPAS Youth Chorus student Remi Baker, whose stunning two-song appearance underscored the transformative power of arts education. A graduate of the celebrated Interlochen Arts Academy and currently enrolled at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU, Baker’s poise and artistry are years beyond her 19.  Her performance reminded the audience why investment in young talent is central to the OPAS mission. Following her duet of “Fields of Gold", lead singer Christian commented “I cannot wait to attend HER concert!"

Next up for OPAS is The Winter Ball on January 31, featuring American legend Michael Feinstein. Proceeds from this signature fundraiser support evenings like this and fuel OPAS’s expanding arts education initiatives for local youth.
