A St. Patrick's Day Musical Celebration

Updated: Oct 17, 2022

The Oconee Performing Arts Society presents virtuoso guitarist Shane Hennessy and the Ashley Davis Band in celebration of all things Irish! Tickets for the event are on sale to the public at www.opas.org or by calling 706-467-6000.

OPAS Artistic Director Doug LaBrecque bills Shane Hennessy as a world-class performer and artist. “Shane has blended traditional Irish music with jazz, country, blues, and other genres to find his very own, unique voice as a solo guitarist.”

Shane built his musical style on Irish traditional music before gaining inspiration from James Taylor, Tommy Emmanuel, Mark Knopfler, and Chet Atkins. Recently, he has explored a contemporary, groove-based sound influenced by progressive jazz and world music, including Nile Rodgers & Chic, Snarky Puppy, Prince, Punch Brothers, and Steely Dan.

Shane transcends the guitar the same way Muhammed Ali transcended boxing. He’s got a unique musical voice, he’s a great entertainer, and a great musician. - Tommy Emmanuel, Australian guitar legend and two times Grammy nominee

Mr. Hennessy has performed thousands of live shows across the United States, Canada, and Europe. During the pandemic, Shane recorded two studio albums, including his latest release Idircheol, which features traditional Irish music specifically composed for solo guitar. He also launched an online music teaching platform and delivered multiple virtual performances.

Originally from Kansas, Ashley Davis blends American roots and a love of Celtic folk music into a genre of its own. The style of the Ashley Davis Band has been described as Joni Mitchell meets contemporary Celtic music.

Her latest project, When the Stars Went Out, was produced and recorded during the pandemic lockdown in collaboration with artists from the worlds of American Roots, Irish, and Irish American music, including a spine-tingling arrangement with Shane Hennessy.

OPAS looks forward to welcoming the unique talents of Shane Hennessy and the Ashley Davis Band for an evening of Irish culture and music. OPAS Operation’s Manager Sandra Meng says, “Celtic-themed concerts have proven very popular with our audiences, and this evening will be one to remember.”

OPAS is excited to bring world-class talent and such authentic interpreters to our local area in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Tickets are available now to the public.
