The Oconee Performing Arts Society lit up Lake Country last Friday night with UPTOWN, a high-octane, Vegas-style celebration of R&B, Pop, Motown, and Soul. A packed and wildly enthusiastic audience cheered, clapped, and danced from the first note to the last.
The men of UPTOWN, a dynamic trio of New York-based singer-dancers, delivered a slick, joyful, and irresistible performance featuring the familiar hits of Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Bruno Mars, and more. Backed by a powerhouse band and an impressive brass section, the trio combined tight harmonies, dazzling choreography, and infectious charisma to create an unforgettable night of entertainment.
With state-of-the-art lighting and world-class sound, the auditorium was transformed into a vibrant concert hall pulsing with exciting visuals and palpable energy. The performers kept the crowd engaged between songs, blending humor and heart into their impressive showmanship.
“We’re deeply grateful to Lake Oconee Church for opening the doors of their auditorium to the community and to OPAS,” said OPAS Board Chair Barry Selvidge. “Seeing audiences of all ages come together to celebrate this music was truly inspiring.”
That sense of community was amplified by the presence of numerous students and parents whose enthusiasm helped make the evening a joyous celebration for all.
UPTOWN continues the stellar start to the OPAS 18th season. Following the success of the complimentary OPAS Concert Truck Pop-Up Series, presented at Greene County Middle School and throughout local communities and churches, OPAS presented Wickedly Broadway, this year’s installment of the popular Broadway Sings for OPAS Series. Featuring stars from Broadway’s Wicked and The OPAS Philharmonic, the event launched the season in a sold-out and stunning fashion.
Before the UPTOWN concert, OPAS Board member Riezl Baker invited guests to “save the date” for the organization’s signature soirée-The Winter Ball, a black-tie fundraising evening to be held at The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee, on January 31, 2026. Proceeds from the event will support OPAS, emphasizing its expanding arts education initiatives.
