The Oconee Performing Arts Society (OPAS) proudly presented internationally acclaimed illusionist and musician Chris Funk in a dynamic, family-friendly event that captivated Lake Country audiences on Sunday, March 22nd.
An America’s Got Talent alum and Las Vegas headliner, Chris Funk delivered a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience that seamlessly blended live music with world-class magic and a polished, comedic sensibility. Known for pushing the boundaries of traditional performance, Funk amazed the audience with unforgettable moments, including instruments appearing to float midair and a violin sonata that brought a classic card trick to life.
Funk’s signature style combined his musicianship and magic, incorporating instruments into his act. This innovative approach has earned him national recognition through appearances on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, CW’s Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Masters of Illusion, and FOX’s Hell’s Kitchen, as well as performances at premier Las Vegas venues, including Planet Hollywood, The Venetian, Mandalay Bay, and the Rio.
Audience engagement was at the heart of the performance, with Funk frequently inviting children on stage to become part of his act. In one memorable sequence, he incorporated a 16-year-old high school student and a delighted five-year-old girl, creating moments of wonder that resonated across generations and brought the audience into the experience.
Another highlight of the afternoon was a custom illusion created specifically for OPAS. Multiple audience members were invited to enter random numbers and mathematical functions into a calculator, resulting in a final number that, when flipped upside down, revealed the message “OCONEEPAS” (Oconee Performing Arts Society). The moment drew audible gasps and enthusiastic applause to conclude the afternoon.

The high-energy and witty performance engaged audiences of all ages and reinforced the OPAS commitment to bringing world-class entertainment to the Lake Country community. “It was thrilling to see so many local students in attendance. Kudos to OPAS for providing these complimentary tickets for children in our community” said Reynolds resident Mary Elzy.
OPAS extends special thanks to Lakeside Church for hosting the event. This marked the first OPAS presentation at Lakeside Church, expanding opportunities to bring exceptional programming to new venues.
Through events like this, OPAS continues to deliver on its mission to present extraordinary performing arts experiences while making them accessible to the broader community.
Next up for OPAS Lovers of chamber music can enjoy OPAS Unplugged on April 19, followed by Motown and The Philly Sound with The Augusta Symphony on May 1, and the ever popular Memorial Day Weekend Concert, a celebration of the great female voices of country music called Queens of Country.
