Lake Oconee audiences are in for an extraordinary May as two powerhouse musical celebrations take center stage at OPAS. One brings the soul and swagger of Motown and The Philly sound, and the other kicks off your Memorial Day weekend with a soaring tribute to the queens of country music.
Let’s Groove Tonight: Motown & The Philly Sound
On May 1, at 7:30 PM, OPAS will pulse with the unmistakable rhythm of Motown and the electrifying sound of Philadelphia soul. Let’s Groove Tonight is a high-energy journey through one of the most influential eras in American pop music.
Headlining the evening is the incomparable Chester Gregory, a Broadway powerhouse known for his dynamic vocals and magnetic stage presence. Gregory has captivated audiences nationwide with tributes to icons such as Jackie Wilson and Marvin Gaye, delivering performances that honor the originals while making every note unmistakably his own.
Conductor Dirk Meyer leads The Augusta Symphony, transforming these timeless hits into a sweeping symphonic experience. Held at The Plaza Arts Center, the evening will showcase a collection of beloved classics. From heartfelt ballads to infectious anthems, Let’s Groove Tonight is a vibrant celebration of rhythm, soul, and the symphonic excellence for which OPAS is known.
Annual Memorial Day Weekend Concert
Join OPAS on May 23rd at 8 PM as we kick off the summer with the immensely popular Memorial Day Weekend concert. Set beneath the open Georgia sky at The Farm at Oconee, this annual lakeside concert has become a signature start to summer, bringing friends, families, and neighbors together in a spectacular outdoor musical event.
This year, OPAS proudly presents The Queens of Country, a vibrant tribute honoring legendary artists such as Shania Twain, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Reba McEntire, and others whose voices shaped country music with strength, storytelling, and unmistakable heart. Grammy Award winners Nicole Zuraitis and Matt Catingub join forces with the Macon Pops and superstar drummer Steve Moretti for an unforgettable evening of powerhouse vocals and electrifying musicianship, celebrating one of America’s most beloved and enduring musical traditions.
