The Plaza Arts Center represents 10 plus years of effort by the entire community

of Eatonton and Putnam County to provide an arts center for all its citizens as

well as serving the greater lake country area. Built in 1916, the old grammar

school, as it was known, served the city until the late 1970s and then continued

in service during the 1980s as a Head Start school.  Today, the building has

been completely renovated to include a 500-seat theater with orchestra pit;

reception hall for banquets, weddings and business functions; board room;

museum; art classrooms; and offices of the Eatonton-Putnam Chamber of

Commerce.

The programming schedule for The Plaza Arts Center seeks to reach a broad,

diverse audience through multi-discipline events: nationally acclaimed musicians,

dancers, art classes, local theater productions, visual arts, comedy, bluegrass,

classical, orchestral and opera performances along with our popular outdoor

summer series, Meet Me at The Plaza.  Most events include educational

components for reaching into the classrooms and exposing our children to as

many forms of the arts as possible in hopes of opening the world of possibilities

to them.
